5 Days 4 Nights Bukit Lawang & Tangkahan
Day 1 : Airport Kualanamu – Medan
Welcome to Indonesia! Upon arrival at Medan International Airport you will be met by your guide and transfer to your hotel in Medan . in the afternoon enjoy a short city tour of the highlights Medan. Visit the Sultan’s Deli Palace built in 1888. In former times the palace was considered the centre of the town’s administration before the city of Medan developed . Continue with a visit to the Great Mosque, built in 1906 by the first sultan, this is still considered one the most beautiful mosques in the country. Finish at the impressive Chinese temple of Gunung Timur . Return to your hotel and enjoy rest of your day is at leisure .
Day 2 : Medan – Bukit Lawang (B)
After Breakfast , Drive to north-westward for about 4 hours to Bohorok one of entrance to Gunung Leuser National Park. En route pass by several small towns in the midst of vast rubber and oil palm plantations. Check-in at the lodge. Afternoon, trekking to the national park to watch the orang utans. Walk for about 30 minutes steps up to the entrance gate of Gunung Leuser national park. Hike up another 20 minutes to the forest to watch orang utan. The orang utans are free animals and sometimes during the fruit season when there are many fruits in the jungle they may not come down. Walk back to the lodge and time at leisure .
Day 3 : Bukit Lawang – Tangkahan (B)
Breakfast. Walk back to the national park to get one more chance of approaching orang utan endangered primates assumed to be the closest species to the human being. Walk for about 30 minutes steps up to the entrance gate of Gunung Leuser national park. Hike up another 20 minutes to the forest to watch orang utan. The orang utans are free animals and sometimes during the fruit season when there are many fruits in the jungle they may not come down. Time at leisure at the lodge. Early afternoon, departure by 4WD for a 2 ½ hour drive on a rocky and dusty track passing through palm oil plantations and wonderful sceneries. Arrival in Tangkahan, a remote outpost deeper in Tanjung Leuser National Park. Cross the river on a hanging bridge and then walk on a small trail for 15 mn to the lodge overlooking a river and facing the rainforest covered mountains . Go to Hotel for Check in . Take a Rest .
Day 4 : Tangkahan – Medan (B)
Breakfast. Back to Tangkahan post and walk 20 mn to the Elephant Center. Tangkahan outpost has been created by local and foreign NGOs to patrol the jungle against illegal loggers and poachers, and protect the national park neglected by the authorities. The patrols are conducted weekly and on elephant back. Assist to the elephant’s bath down in the river and help the rangers scrubbing and feeding them with bananas . Back to Medan . Go to Hotel for Check in . Take a Rest .
Day 5 : Medan – Airport Kualanamu (B)
After breakfast transfer to Airport for your flight to next destination .
